Paradise Farms Corp., JP Racing Stable, David Staudacher, Zilla Racing Stables and Jennifer Rice’s Arctic Blast tops a field of seven 3-year-olds entered Monday for Friday’s 78th running of the $400,000 Lafayette (L) going 7 furlongs on the main track.
The Lafayette will go as the fifth race on Friday’s 10-race opening day program with a 3:08 p.m. ET post time. First post is 1 p.m.
Trained by Mike Maker, Arctic Blast has feasted on New York-bred competition winning all four starts at the level including three stakes by a combined 22 ¾ lengths. In his lone venture into open company, Arctic Blast was runner-up in the 11-horse Remington Springboard Mile (L).
Ricardo Santana Jr. has the mount from post 3.
Two other stakes winners are in the field: Joseph Sutton’s Comport and Michael McLoughlin’s Oscar’s Hope.
Trained by Eddie Kenneally, Comport won the Ellis Park Juvenile in August and will be making his first start since a sixth-place finish in the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. Tyler Gaffalione has the mount from post 1.
Oscar’s Hope is a two-time stakes winner now trained by Kinnon LaRose. Victorious in the Ozark at Oaklawn Park in his most recent start, Oscar’s Hope will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. from post 7.
