Two Horses Each Bring $375,000 Friday as Keeneland November Total Sales Reach $189 Million

Unchained Elaine, a 3-year-old filly by American Pharoah who won a stakes at Gulfstream Park this year, and a weanling filly by Yaupon who is a half-sister to a recent Grade 2 winner, each sold for $375,000 Friday at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale to top another robust day. With $25 million in sales today, the gross through four days is more than $189 million.

“Today’s session exceeded expectations, and it felt more like a continuation of Book 2 than the start of Book 3,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “The energy here has been tremendous, and we continue to see an incredible diversity of buyers eager to reinvest after such a strong year. There’s a real sense of optimism and momentum that’s carrying through every session and I think that’s reflective of the buyers’ confidence in the market.”

On Friday, Keeneland sold 270 horses through the ring for $25,416,500 for an increase of 39.69% from the fourth session in 2024 when 244 horses brought $18,195,500. The average of $94,135 is 26.23% higher than last year’s $74,572. The median climbed 25% from $60,000 to $75,000.

Cumulatively, 866 horses have sold through the ring for $189,542,500 for an increase of 31.81% over the corresponding period last year when the 800 horses grossed $143,802,000. The average of $218,871 is 21.76% above last year’s $179,753. The median of $150,000 is up 30.43% from $115,000.  

On Friday, CF Farms paid $375,000 for Unchained Elaine, a 2-length winner of Gulfstream’s Any Limit Stakes in March. Out of Grade 2-placed winner Razorback Lady, by Overdriven, she is from the family of stakes winners Video Talc, Audio Cassette, Cassette Player, Desktop, Bubba Higgins and Danaher Steve. Grovendale Sales, agent, consigned Unchained Elaine.

Grovendale Sales, agent, led consignors during the session with sales of  $2,277,000 for 19 horses.

Contada Stable went to $375,000 to acquire the Yaupon weanling filly, whose half-brother Ole Crazy Bone captured the Sept. 6 KTDF Kentucky Turf Cup Invitational (G2) at Kentucky Downs. Consigned by Moreau Bloodstock Int’l., the filly is out of the winning stakes-placed mare Southern Gem, by Smart Strike.

Trinitas Place paid $360,000 for Calle Amada, a 4-year-old daughter of Street Sense in foal to Tiz the Law. Claiborne Farm, agent, consigned the mare, a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Ganadora from the family of Grade 3 winners Voyagers Quest  and Golden Mystery.

Three horses sold for $310,000 apiece.

Cherry Knoll Farm paid the amount for a weanling colt from the first crop of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mage consigned by Vinery Sales, agent. Out of the American Pharoah mare American Sway, he is from the family of Grade/Group 3 winners Tumbarumba, Very Special Lite, Strategic Partner and Maven.

Pick View went to $310,000 for a weanling son of Yaupon from the family of Grade/Group 1 winners Bachelor Duke and Talco (FR) as well as Group 2 winner Spanish Mission. Pope McLean (Crestwood Farm), agent, consigned the colt, whose dam is the Medaglia d’Oro mare Dame Iris.

Encourageachother, a winning 4-year-old daughter of Street Sense in foal to Muth, sold for $310,000 to East Bloodstock. Consigned by Woods Edge Farm, agent, she is out of stakes winner Sister Nation, by Into Mischief, and from the family of Grade 1 winners Evita Argentina and Trippi.

Faris Breeding was the day’s leading buyer, spending $955,000 for five horses.

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Keeneland will hold the November Horses of Racing Age Sale. The auction starts at noon.
