Stonestreet Lexington Attracts 65 Nominations

April 3, 2022

The 40th running of the $400,000 Stonestreet Lexington (G3), which serves as the final points race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1), drew 65 nominations for the 1 1/16-mile race to be run Saturday, April 16.

The race will offer 34 points toward the Derby to be run May 7 at Churchill Downs on a 20-8-4-2 scale for the first- through fourth-place finishers. The Derby is limited to the top 20 point earners that pass the entry box. The current cut line is 21 points with three points race scheduled this weekend before the Stonestreet Lexington.

Among the Stonestreet Lexington nominees below the cut line are B4 Farms’ Bye Bye Bobby (20), runner-up in the Sunland Park Derby (G3), and Peter Cantrell and Benjamin Gase’s Call Me Midnight (10), winner of the Lecomte (G3).

Two other stakes will be run over the second weekend of the meet: the third running of the $200,000 TVG Limestone (L) for 3-year-old fillies going 5½ furlongs on the turf and the 25th running of the $200,000 Giant’s Causeway (L) for fillies and mares going 5½ furlongs on the grass.

The TVG Limestone, slated for Friday, April 15, drew 36 nominations that include Gregory Kaufman’s Kaufymaker and Waterville Lake Stable’s Derrynane, the 3-4 finishers in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) at Del Mar.

The Giant’s Causeway attracted 30 nominations headed by two-time Group 1 winner Campanelle (IRE), owned by Stonestreet Stables, and 2021 winner Change of Control, owned by Perry Harrison. The Giant’s Causeway will be run Saturday, April 16.
