Central Bank Ashland (G1)

Founded in 1946, Central Bank is one of Kentucky’s largest independently owned and operated banks, known for its commitment to community and local leadership. Headquartered in Lexington, Central Bank has supported Kentucky traditions for generations, including Thoroughbred racing. The bank’s involvement with Keeneland began in 2005 when it became the sponsor of the Transylvania. In 2010, it transitioned to become the sponsor of the Ashland, further deepening its connection to one of the sport’s most prestigious spring races.
The Ashland, named for Henry Clay’s historic Lexington estate, debuted at Keeneland’s inaugural meet in 1936. Originally open to fillies and mares, the race was revived in 1940 as a spring contest exclusively for 3-year-old fillies. From 1943 to 1945, it was run during Keeneland-at-Churchill Downs meetings before returning home to Lexington. Today, the Central Bank Ashland (G1) remains a key prep race on the road to the Kentucky Oaks.
