Darley Alcibiades (G1)

A global force in Thoroughbred breeding, Darley brings world-class standards and international success to every facet of the sport. Founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Darley is the prestigious breeding arm of Godolphin, with operations in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Japan. Since its inception, Darley has remained dedicated to advancing the breed, standing elite stallions and producing top-level runners around the world. In 2003, Darley became the title sponsor of the Alcibiades, a fall highlight at Keeneland that showcases top 2-year-old fillies.

The Alcibiades Stakes is named for the influential foundation mare Alcibiades, owned by Hal Price Headley, one of Keeneland’s founders. A pillar of American Thoroughbred bloodlines, Alcibiades is the matriarch of more than a dozen stakes winners, including the likes of Menow, Sir Ivor and Secret Hello. First run in 1952, the race has long been a proving ground for future stars. Today, the Darley Alcibiades (G1) stands as one of the most prestigious juvenile filly races in the country, offering a coveted berth to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
