Maker's Mark Mile (G1)

Now known as the Maker’s Mark Mile (G1), this race has become a centerpiece of Keeneland’s Spring Meet. First run in 1989 as the Fort Harrod Stakes and shortened to a mile the following year, the event was elevated to Grade 1 status in 2008 and today stands as one of North America’s premier turf races for older horses.

Maker’s Mark, founded in Loretto, Kentucky, is celebrated worldwide for its smooth bourbon and iconic hand-dipped red wax seal. A National Historic Landmark, the distillery embodies Kentucky craftsmanship and tradition. Its partnership with Keeneland began in 1997 when it became the race’s sponsor—and Maker’s Mark holds the distinction of being the first bourbon ever served by the case at the track. Each year, Keeneland and Maker’s Mark collaborate on a limited-edition collector’s bottle, a program that has raised over $8 million for charitable causes across the state, reflecting the shared commitment of both institutions to Kentucky’s heritage, community and Thoroughbred racing.
