The Fayette is named for Fayette County, of which Lexington is the county seat. Hagyard Equine Medical Institute of Lexington became the sponsor in 2013. In 2015, the race was run Oct. 30 on the undercard for the first of two days of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland.
