The Lafayette was a fixture for 3-year-olds during the Spring Meets of 1937-2008. The race was run for older horses in 2015 and 2020 on the undercard of the Breeders’ Cup. The Lafayette was upgraded to listed in 2025.

In 2025 Colloquial captured the Lafayette for trainer George Weaver, jockey Manuel Franco, and owners Harrell Ventures LLC and Starlight Racing.
