Race 5 at Keeneland
Post Time 3:08 p.m. Eastern Time
Contender(s) in preference order with minimum odds for considering win bets:
#2 Talbingo – at odds 3 to 2 or higher
#1 Versus – at odds 3 to 1 or higher
Talbingo has won four of seven races and finished second twice. Off a nearly three-month layoff, he won on January 31. In his last race, one month ago, he rallied from eighth and missed by a nose. He should improve in his third start off the layoff this year. Joel Rosario rode him twice previously, once when he won aboard him last March, and again in his recent race. He knows what to do to get him to run well. Talbingo is the one to beat.
Versus has won twice in his first four career starts, including a first allowance (NW1X) race. He then ran in two stakes races, but when he dropped in class to the NW2X allowance level, he finished second, missing by half a length. He then went back to the stakes three times, where he raced seventh, third, and fifth. Now he has been off for five months, and he is back in the NW2X allowance races. Luis Saez rides him for the first time, and Saez is trying to win the Keeneland leading jockey title. Saez was second through the weekend, which means every one of his mounts must be considered.
