Safety Report April 10, 2025

Thursday, April 10

During Race 9 at Keeneland, Total Gas sustained an injury to his left front pastern and was attended to by an expert team of veterinarians led by KHRCG Chief Veterinarian Dr. Nick Smith in consultation with Dr. Stuart Brown, Vice President of Equine Safety at Keeneland. Given the extent of the injury, it was determined that humane euthanasia was in the best interest of the horse. Keeneland offers our heartfelt condolences to owner Brownwood Farm and trainer Ignacio Correas.

Steward's Report - April 6, 2025

April 6, 2025

Keeneland Race 5

A Stewards Inquiry was posted involving the stretch run and, in addition, an objection was lodged by the rider of second place #5 “Serene Seraph (IRE)” (Jose Ortiz) alleging interference by the rider of the unofficial winner, #10 “Chilled” (Axel Concepcion) in the stretch. After reviewing the race replay and interviewing the riders, the stewards determined that #10 ducked out into the path of #5 near the 1/16 pole, causing #5 to steady sharply and lose momentum. For the interference, #10 was disqualified from first and placed second, behind #5.

Official order of finish: 5-10-2-13

Opening Weekend Weather Updates

Keeneland Opening Weekend Weather Update

April 4-5 racing rescheduled to April 7-8

Due to a forecast of severe storms and significant flooding expected in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky this weekend, Keeneland has announced it is rescheduling the first two days of its Spring Meet to ensure the safest environment for horses, participants and fans. The decision was made following Gov. Andy Beshear’s declaration of a state of emergency ahead of potentially historic amounts of rain and strong winds across the state during the next four days.

Keeneland’s opening Friday, April 4 race card, including the $750,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1), now will take place on Monday, April 7. The Saturday, April 5 race card, featuring the $1.25 million Toyota Blue Grass (G1), will be rescheduled to Tuesday, April 8. Mondays and Tuesdays are typically non-racing days.

  • Previously Purchased General Admission Tickets now will be valid for single entry on any race day during the Spring Meet, including dates that are currently sold out.
