Keeneland Race 2

A Stewards Inquiry was posted involving the top two finishers and, in addition, an objection was lodged by the rider of second place #4 “Apollo Rising” (Rafael Bejarano) alleging interference by the rider of the unofficial winner #9 “Rush Center” (James Graham) in the stretch. After reviewing the race replay and interviewing the riders, the stewards determined that #9 ducked in at the top of the stretch and caused #4 to steady and lose momentum. For the interference, #9 was disqualified and placed second, behind #4.

Official order of finish: 4-9-1-3

Details: Pearse was given a courtesy ride back to the barn after the race. After unloading, he cooled out at the barn without incident and continues to be closely monitored. After evaluation from the KHRC veterinary team and attending veterinarian, prognosis appears good. The horse continues to do well without any obvious reasons determined for pulling him up in the race. No evidence of EIPH or lameness have presented.

Details: In the stretch of race 6, Foreign Relations (#1) abruptly impeded the path of Master of the Ring (#11). The horses clipped heels and caused Master of the Ring to go down in the stretch, unseating jockey Tyler Gaffalione. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione was cleared to ride in the following race. After the evaluation from the KHRC veterinary team, it was determined that Master of the Ring suffered a sublaxated right carpus which was catastrophic in nature. #1 Foreign Relations was disqualified by the stewards as a result of the incident.

A Stewards Inquiry was posted involving the unofficial winner #1 “Foreign Relations” (Flavien Prat) and #11 “Master of the Ring” (Tyler Gaffalione) who fell and unseated his rider near the 1/8 pole. After reviewing the race replay and interviewing Flavien Prat, the stewards determined that #1 bore in and caused #11, who was between horses, to clip his heels and fall. For the interference, #1 was disqualified and placed last.

Official order of finish: 6-12-9-3

Attending Veterinarian: Dr. Brad Bentz

Details: Jockey Jareth Loveberry pulled Myredwhiteandblue up after the wire after showing slight lameness in the right front limb. He loaded uneventfully into the equine ambulance and was transported back to the barn and evaluated by attending veterinarian Dr. Brad Bentz and the KHRC veterinary team. Digital radiographs diagnosed a basilar medial sesamoid fracture in the left front fetlock.He continues to do well in the care of trainer Louie Rousel, remaining in a cast for additional support and stability to facilitate healing. Connections plan to fully rehab his injury for full recovery and prognosis remains good.

Attending Veterinarian: Dr. Bo Landry

Details: Jockey Luis Saez pulled Oldest Sister up after the wire after showing slight lameness in the left front limb. She was transported uneventfully to the barn by the Keeneland ambulance team for further evaluation by Dr. Bo Landry and the KHRC veterinary team. Digital radiographs taken by Dr. Landry diagnosed an apical medial sesamoid fracture in the left front fetlock. Surgical opinion was sought related to her apical sesamoid injury and felt that conservative treatment to allow healing was in her best interest for long term soundness. She continues to do well at the farm where she has been taken for retirement as reported by the trainer.

Horse Name: Goin to the Show

Attending Veterinarian: Dr. Nicole Wettstein

Details: Jockey Julien Leparoux pulled Goin to the Show up after crossing the finish line when he became acutely lame in the right forelimb. The horse was loaded uneventfully into the equine ambulance by the KHRC veterinary team for transport to the barn to meet the attending veterinarian. After further evaluation by the attending veterinarian Dr. Nicole Wettstein, in conjunction with Dr. Nick Smith, radiographs were taken and the diagnosis was made of a bilateral sesamoid fracture of the right front fetlock. Due to the severity of the injury and the grave prognosis for recovery, euthanasia was elected in the best interest of the horse.
